The Chairman viewed a copy of the content, the complaint, the preliminary response from Television New Zealand (TVNZ) and the relevant Standard from the Code, Standard 1 Accuracy.

The Chairman noted TVNZ had acknowledged a possible breach of Standard 1 relating to the image accompanying the story, had removed the photo and included a note on the story advising the photo had been removed and why.

In the Chairman’s view, the self-regulatory action of TVNZ to acknowledge and address the inaccuracy following complaint meant there would be no further benefit in placing the matter before the Complaints Committee –as the material that was of concern had been removed. The Chairman ruled that the complaint was settled.

Chairman’s Ruling:    Settled
